Massage for Menopause
Get Relief from Hot Flashes, Moodiness and Cravings
A 2012 clinical study was done to find out how the common symptoms of menopausal women were affected from receiving aromatherapy massage, massage with no aromatherapy, and those who got no massage at all.
“Each participant in the aromatherapy massage group received 30-minute aromatherapy treatment sessions twice a week for 4 weeks with aroma oil, whereas participants in the placebo massage group received the same treatment with plain oil. No treatment was provided to participants in the control group. The outcome measures in this study were menopausal symptoms, as obtained through the Menopause Rating Scale.” https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22549173
The study found significant decreases in the menopausal symptoms of both groups of women who received massage, with the most decreases found in the group receiving the aromatherapy massage.
Wouldn’t you have liked to participate in this study? Two massages a week for a month! Nice.
While most of us can’t manage a massage quite that often, surely we can carve out time at least once a month, possibly twice a month. For the truly dedicated, perhaps even once a week.
The bottom line is that one massage every once in a while isn’t going to cut it, if your goal is to improve your overall health and well-being, that is. To accomplish that, you have to find a regular schedule that works for you and commit to it, just like exercise, eating well, and showering regularly.
You Should Know...
When you come in for your first appointment, I'll have you fill out a "New Client Intake Form" so I can learn about your health and lifestyle. We'll have a short chat before your massage so I can tailor your session specifically to your needs. I want you to get the most out of your treatment so you can experience the full benefit of receiving therapeutic massage.
During this short consultation, I'll ask you a few questions regarding your pressure preference, where you've been experiencing any pain or soreness and if you need me to focus on any areas (ie: more time on the neck and shoulders, deeper work on the feet, shooting pain in the lower back, etc). Please share any details about your day to day life (ie: requently carrying a baby, sitting for hours at a time, arduous physical activity, etc) so I can provide the best possible massage treatment for you.
And of course, please let me know if you're uncomfortable during the massage in any way. I'll check in occasionally (more often for new clients) but if the music is too loud/quiet, the room is too warm/cold or the pressure of the massage is too light/deep, or anything else you can think of, let me know. This is your time, and your treatment should be tailored exactly to your preference.
